31 Days of Hope - Day 22

"Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens."
Psalm 68:19

This past spring, the kids and I read through the children's version of Pilgrim's Progress. Though the words were made simpler for children to comprehend, they were still powerful, as were the illustrations. I vividly remember the picture of Christian,, the main character, trudging with a huge burden on his back.  Then, the picture illustrating his freedom once his burden was lifted at the cross.

Though I believe the burden lifting in this book was meant to represent salvation, the image reminds me of how I often feel on a daily basis. Like I have all this excess weight to carry around with me. There are all of these troubles... worries... fearful thoughts... needs I have... that I carry around with me. I let them bog me down, unable to fully enjoy life and the joys I am also given to enjoy during the course of the day. Been there? Done that?

We all carry burdens, and we are all invited to lay these burdens down, whatever they are, and let our Heavenly Father carry them for us.

"Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken." -Psalm 55:22

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."  -1 Peter 5:7

And when we do that, this verse brings us to praise! We don't have to struggle with them on our own any more.  We can experience joy, not because our troubles are gone, but because they are in safe strong hands. The hands that hold the world are holding your heart, and your burdens.

We praise You, Jesus.  You are good, and we can rest knowing You are carrying our burdens each day.
